John Hofmeister, former president of Shell Oil Company, will discuss the book 鈥淓xecutive Leadership: A Practical Guide to Managing Complexity鈥� Sept. 20 at 黑料老司机. The event is part of the Those Who Lead, Read program, a monthly speaker series that engages students and the Wichita community in a timely discussion about literacy and leadership.

The event is free and open to the public and will take place at 7 p.m. at Edmund Stanley Library. Friends is hosting various leaders in 2017 to discuss their favorite books on leadership, faith or organizational change.

鈥淓xecutive Leadership鈥� by Elliott Jaques and Stephen D. Clement offers helpful tips to leaders of organizations as it focuses on the structure of the organization as a necessary ingredient for effective leadership.

Hofmeister will bring insights from his more than 35 years of industry and leadership experience at companies such as General Electric, Nortel and Allied Signal (now Honeywell International). Hofmeister holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree and master鈥檚 degree in political science from Kansas State University and honorary doctorates from the University of Houston and from Kansas State University.

In addition to founding and leading Citizens for Affordable Energy, Hofmeister serves as non-executive director of Applus, Erin Energy Inc. and Hunting PLC. He is a Wrigley Scholar/Executive in Residence at the Global Institute of Sustainability at Arizona State University and a lecturer at the University of Houston.
